No. 29: Do You Share These Pet Peeves?
January 23rd 2009 17:40
I would rather be in positive form ALL of the time, but sometimes I think each of us gets so much negative stuff issued our way that we need to just release it once in a while. So here I go for today --
I find it insulting to hear speakers (pastors, rabbis, mullahs, gurus and lay people) using prayer as a pretense for disguised little sermons. It has always been my opinion that when one calls on the generally-understood "Most Powerful Entity in the Universe," that one keep the address to that Entity. When people use prayer to talk to the audience, it is not only insulting to the listeners, but could very well be offensive to God.
I am offended by litterbugs! If any reader leaves trash around, take note: I do not want to live in your rubbish bin! Take the trash to the proper receptacle. Once I dressed down an older teen when he opened his car door just to lay his pieces of paper in our bank's parking lot. How about the people who empty their auto cigarette trays at traffic lights, or the ones who throw their trash into the backs of pick up trucks--knowing full well that once under way the wind will blow the stuff all over the roadways?
Some people's actions disgust me because they are so lazy they will not even carry their shopping carts to the proper place. Instead, they leave them between automobiles, up on the curbs or worse yet, they use them to carry their groceries blocks away and leave them by the street. More than once, I have seen perfectly good shopping carts thrown into canals, ditches and apartment trash bins because the mischievous ones thought it would be a lark. Has your car been hit by a loose one traveling downhill? The dents are very unpleasant reminders. Now, if one is handicapped and can not carry the cart out the vehicle and then return it properly, ask for help! There is almost always someone willing to assist.
I get uptight over people not stopping their cars when required. In most states, one should stop at all stop signs and then move to the intersection cautiously. The same is true for turning right at red lights.
Oh! The classic pet peeve--people talking in the theaters--will someone just shut them up! There are also the parents who choose to take their infants to the movies. The rest of us are subjected to the crying, and other noises, while the parents continue the "shooshing" and other audibles.
How about this example? My wife and I get to the parade very early, we choose a spot on the curb so no one will stand in front of us. Wrong! Each and every time crowds will walk out on the street right in front of us and the others. The process is repeated even after the police have cleared the streets numerous times.
Unfriendly passersby bug me. I was raised in Tennessee where most people were accustomed to greeting others on the street. Now, it seems, if you smile at some people, they just look disgusted, as if you are only wanting to preach, sell or harass. Now, I can make allowances for a person's bad day, but this happening too often now?
I dislike politicians who do not answer a direct question with a direct answer, all the time. It seems it has become a habit with some of them., instead of just when necessary.
One pet peeve is the major news media not telling the truth or spinning their stories to manipulate. If you have been a reader of this blog for any time, you know this is one of my major gripes.
The list goes on for me. I got these off by chest. Now, you can add your own in the comments section, if you like.
Until the next post, please keep it between the lines.
